The Sunday New York Times had a fun piece about those military MRE’s … Meals Ready to Eat. Seems that each country designs them to include their soldier’s favorite comfort foods, such as mac’ n cheese for American GIs. But the French? They take comfort food to another level. Open a French MRE and you might find cassoulet with duck confit.
We’ve got a yummy little cassoulet ourselves, in a bit of a Spanish vein with peruano beans, pork belly, pepperade, duck confit and whatever sausage Nathan has stuffed for the week, plus mussels or prawns. Yikes. And you don’t have to sweat your way across the desert in really uncomfortable shoes to get it.
